What UPSC says?

General Science

About the subject:

Again, the term General Science has far reaching areas of study. UPSC, over the years, has asked questions mostly related to current events incorporating certain fundamental principles into it.

The syllabus includes topics such as physics, chemistry, biology, technology, space and current events.

One need not study the topics as a core science subject (like in school) and the focus must be on current researches and events happening in the world of science.

Every alternate year seems to show a swing in the number of questions asked from this area. The relative importance is on the lower side in civil services prelims, but nevertheless a candidate cannot take any area for granted in UPSC exams. The questions from this section, more often than not, have been analytical in nature and concepts are as important as facts.
